Singapore Airlines – Double Suite – FRA to JFK – The Holy Grail of Flights!

There are three flights on my bucket list: taking a shower on Emirates, the Etihad apartment, and the Singapore Airlines double suite. Recently, I had the absolute pleasure of checking the last one off my list on a flight from Frankfurt to JFK.

On the day of the flight, we checked in using the dedicated suites desk and then went to the lounge. One disappointing thing about flying from FRA, instead of Singapore, is that I am sure the suites lounge in Singapore and the pre-departure services would be much grander so we did miss out on some of the experience.

Turkish Airlines – Business Class – LHR to IST

On a recent trip to Turkey, which would be my first time visiting the country, I flew from London (LHR) to Istanbul (IST) with Turkish Airlines aboard an A321 NEO in business class. I had no idea what to expect and was happily greeted with a new business class cabin.

The seats had a ton of leg room, more than most North American carriers. Even if the person in front completely reclined, there was enough room to comfortably cross my legs.

Jetblue – Mint – Throne Seat – Seattle to JFK

On a recent trip to NYC, I had the absolute pleasure of flying Jetblue Mint (their version of business class) from SEA to JFK (my first time on a Jetblue flight). With the recent chaos in air travel (lost luggage, delays, cancelled trips etc), this was a shining star. The first thing to know is that on this aircraft, an A321, the mint configuration is a bit awkward. Although all the seats are lay flat, some are called “throne seats”, basically single suites and some are 2 side by side.

Note that the throne seats have a door you can close and you will be in complete privacy, but they don’t work until the plane is in the air (as you will see from the video below).

Westjet New Business Class – 787 Dreamliner Calgary > Gatwick > Toronto

Westjet is Canada’s “second” airline. It started as an all economy airline, slowly added plus seats (a kind of premium economy; or depending how you look at it, a European business class with the middle seat blocked) and now has a full lay flat business class product on their new 787 Dreamliner. I flew the business class for the first time on a recent flight from Calgary > Gatwick and then Gatwick > Toronto. On both flights I was in the first row – seat 1.

Omni Air International (Air Canada) Business Class and Economy 767 – YVR to HNL and Return

Due to the grounding of the Boeing 737 MAX, many airlines have to lease planes in order to service certain routes. This review is about Air Canada flight AC2411 from Vancouver to Honolulu in economy, and HNL to YVR AC2410 in business class, on an Omni Air International 767.

On the outbound flight, I sat in the bulkhead row 17A. You should know that if you are in the window seat, the arm rest is attached to the window which reduces the width a little:

Lanai Air – HNL to Lanai and Return

Before you read this review, if you enjoy these reviews, subscribe to this blog. This way, you don’t miss out on any future reviews. None of the meals/services in my reviews are provided free by the restaurants so you know you will always get an unbiased opinion. On some occasions if they offer anything free (usually due to a complaint during the meal), I will always let you know.

This is my review of the experience on Lanai Air. Lanai Air is basically a charter/private plane service from Honolulu to Lanai.

Air Canada – YVR to SFO – A320 – Business Class Bulkhead

These are the best seats in business class due to the cut out in the bulkhead. As opposed to other cut outs I have seen, these are “real” cut outs and not just tiny slits at the bottom of the bulkhead. Note that the other side of the aisle (seats 1D and 1F) do not have a similar cut out.

As you can see, there is enough room to fully stretch your legs. The only downside is that your right leg goes into the aisle so you have to be mindful of traffic. The space is even large enough to fit a bag underneath if you want.

Colombia – Domestic Flights on LATAM

I like travelling in comfort with as few inconveniences as possible. The prospect of flying domestic in a country I have never been to, and on an airline I have never been on, is a bit worrisome. For example, will they have good customer service if something goes wrong?

There are horror stories online of poor customer service, delayed flights, and everything else that can go wrong when travelling. I think that people tend to post, or write negative reviews more often than positive, so if you search for them, you will find them.

Las Vegas to Vancouver – Air Canada Rouge (AC1897) – Premium Rouge (bulkhead seat review)

Air Canada Rouge is a subsidiary of Air Canada and is used mainly for vacation destinations. There is no business class, but what they call Premium Rouge. In my opinion, it is somewhere in between a premium economy and domestic business class.

I have always found the service on Rouge flights to be very good and friendly. This flight was no exception. The attendant, Marko, in our cabin, provided excellent service.

Vancouver to Minneapolis to La Guardia (New York) – Delta First (bulkhead vs row 2)

On January 26, 2019, I flew from Vancouver to New York LaGuardia on Delta in First Class.
The first leg of the trip was from YVR to Minneapolis (MSP) on Delta 2555, an Airbus 319. I sat in row 1, bulkhead, aisle seat (left side of plane). Even though there is a cutout, I found that the position of the bulkhead restricts leg room, and this is not an optimal seat. Basically, the cutout allows you to put your toes underneath the wall, which is not that great an option as you will see in the picture below. The cutout is not big enough to fully extend your legs.

Icelandair 168 – YVR to Reykjavik – Saga Class

This flight was on a 757 in Saga Class. Although it is a long haul flight, the seats are similar to domestic first/business class (IE no lay flat; only recliner).

Seats

We had seats 2A and 2C. These were the second row on the left side of the plane. Note that seats 2D and 2F are the bulkhead on the right side (there is no row 1 on the right side of the plane). I do not recommend sitting in the bulkhead. Although I observed cutouts, the leg room is reduced. Here is a picture of seats 2D and 2F.

Cathay Pacific – YVR to JFK and JFK to YVR in Premium Economy – 777

On a recent flight from YVR to JFK (Vancouver to New York JFK), I flew on Cathay Pacific’s 777 in Premium Economy flight CX888. Note that this is an overnight flight. The BEST seats in premium economy on this plane are 31 AC. The configuration of this plane in PE is 2-4-2.

In 31 AC, there is no bulkhead wall in front of you. What about the title of this post – lay flat? Well, when you recline the seat, extend the leg rest all the way, and the footrest, it ALMOST feels like you are laying flat.
