Flight Reviews
Singapore Airlines – Double Suite – FRA to JFK – The Holy Grail of Flights!
There are three flights on my bucket list: taking a shower on Emirates, the Etihad apartment, and the Singapore Airlines double suite. Recently, I had the absolute pleasure of checking the last one off my list on a flight from Frankfurt to JFK.
On the day of the flight, we checked in using the dedicated suites desk and then went to the lounge. One disappointing thing about flying from FRA, instead of Singapore, is that I am sure the suites lounge in Singapore and the pre-departure services would be much grander so we did miss out on some of the experience.
Turkish Airlines – Business Class – LHR to IST
On a recent trip to Turkey, which would be my first time visiting the country, I flew from London (LHR) to Istanbul (IST) with Turkish Airlines aboard an A321 NEO in business class. I had no idea what to expect and was happily greeted with a new business class cabin.
The seats had a ton of leg room, more than most North American carriers. Even if the person in front completely reclined, there was enough room to comfortably cross my legs.
Jetblue – Mint – Throne Seat – Seattle to JFK
On a recent trip to NYC, I had the absolute pleasure of flying Jetblue Mint (their version of business class) from SEA to JFK (my first time on a Jetblue flight). With the recent chaos in air travel (lost luggage, delays, cancelled trips etc), this was a shining star. The first thing to know is that on this aircraft, an A321, the mint configuration is a bit awkward. Although all the seats are lay flat, some are called “throne seats”, basically single suites and some are 2 side by side.
Note that the throne seats have a door you can close and you will be in complete privacy, but they don’t work until the plane is in the air (as you will see from the video below).
Westjet New Business Class – 787 Dreamliner Calgary > Gatwick > Toronto
Westjet is Canada’s “second” airline. It started as an all economy airline, slowly added plus seats (a kind of premium economy; or depending how you look at it, a European business class with the middle seat blocked) and now has a full lay flat business class product on their new 787 Dreamliner. I flew the business class for the first time on a recent flight from Calgary > Gatwick and then Gatwick > Toronto. On both flights I was in the first row – seat 1.
Omni Air International (Air Canada) Business Class and Economy 767 – YVR to HNL and Return
Due to the grounding of the Boeing 737 MAX, many airlines have to lease planes in order to service certain routes. This review is about Air Canada flight AC2411 from Vancouver to Honolulu in economy, and HNL to YVR AC2410 in business class, on an Omni Air International 767.
On the outbound flight, I sat in the bulkhead row 17A. You should know that if you are in the window seat, the arm rest is attached to the window which reduces the width a little:

This is my review of the experience on Lanai Air. Lanai Air is basically a charter/private plane service from Honolulu to Lanai.
Air Canada – YVR to SFO – A320 – Business Class Bulkhead
These are the best seats in business class due to the cut out in the bulkhead. As opposed to other cut outs I have seen, these are “real” cut outs and not just tiny slits at the bottom of the bulkhead. Note that the other side of the aisle (seats 1D and 1F) do not have a similar cut out.
As you can see, there is enough room to fully stretch your legs. The only downside is that your right leg goes into the aisle so you have to be mindful of traffic. The space is even large enough to fit a bag underneath if you want.
