The first time I had a really roast goose in Hong Kong my mind was blown away. I happened to eat there by accident, just passing by, and regrettably, I probably won’t be able to find that spot again.
However, I was recently invited to a place called New Asia BBQ on Spring Mountain in Las Vegas’s Chinatown, and I was thoroughly impressed. I went back a second time, partly because I kept thinking about the place and partly to confirm my initial thoughts.
The place is amazing. First, you encounter the hanging meat in a window when you walk in like any good place should have on display:

Next, the place pays amazing attention to detail. Every order comes with a free bowl of delicious broth. They are probably making it with the parts they cannot serve which shows care to use all the parts and let nothing go to waste, and demonstrating hospitality to their guests, something even fine dining places seem to be lacking these days. At the end of the meal, they also serve a free bowl of dessert. Again, more thoughtful touches. The first time was a red bean soup which I was not a big fan of, but the second time they served a tapioca soup which was perfectly balance, rich and creamy. While Chinese restaurants sometimes provide efficient service that some may take as “bad”, this place is very very friendly, fast and kind.
On to the food. I’ve had 3 types of their BBQ:
- duck – moist, and golden skin. Served in its jus. Wonderful flavor.
- bbq pork – tender, moist and bursting with flavor
- crispy pork
The non-BBQ items are wonderful too. The beef chow fun is exploding with proper wok hei flavor. The portion of beef to noodles is VERY generous. The pea tips in garlic fed us for three days!
Overall, this is going to be one of my go to spots for Chinese food in Vegas. Highly recommended.
