On a recent trip to NYC, I had dinner at Teru Omakase, and I had the whole restaurant to myself! There was a sushi counter and some tables but I was the only diner. This gave me a great opportunity to have some great conversation with the chef.
The meal started with 3 selections of sashimi:

…and then a buttery miso cod:

…followed by chawanmushi…

…and the last course before sushi was a fish broth…

What I really liked about this place is the ipad where they show you what you are eating. A lot of times I go for omakase and then forget what each piece was when looking at the pics after, especially when they aren’t common fish.

This squid was so good and the chef told me it was a special kind called sumi ika:

The handroll was really good too, with very fatty tuna, complimented by crunchy Japanese pickles; tons of umami here:

I added one more piece at the chef’s recommendation:

The meal ended with tea and dessert:

Overall, service was excellent and the chef was really friendly. The food was good. I would recommend.
