Les Petite Canailles (LPC) is a French restaurant in Paso Robles, California. A lot of people I spoke to in the area raved about this place, including the sommelier at Six from my post yesterday. They weren’t exaggerating. I would describe the food as elevated classic French cooking. We started with the steak tartar:

…and the tater tots with house made ranch and caviar. This was a special and not on the menu. How could you go wrong with perfectly seasoned crisp tater tots that were warm and plush on the inside? The ranch and caviar just took everything to the next level. The only thing is I love ranch and there was not enough. I asked for more and they promptly brought a side of it. Our server told us to try a couple bites with some steak tartar. I did and that was the definition of indulgence.

For mains we had the pork which was also a special and not on the regular menu. We also had the Joel Robuchon mashed p. The pork was one of the best I can remember. A lot of times pork is cooked too tough, or dry, or even when moist, has an overly dense meaty texture. This had the texture of a really good medium rare steak. It was incredible. At first bite, the first thought that came to my mind was “wow, these guy know how to cook”. Our server told us the pork was sou vide then grilled. It came with some jus that was the cherry on top. The potatoes were just as advertised. If you have not had JR potatoes before, they are basically made with a ton of butter. At LPC, they also added some type of jus.

At this point we were too full for dessert so they brought us some macarons to end the meal.

Very foolishly, we had a large snack before this dinner. If not, I would of loved to try some of their wine offerings and MORE items from the menu. Needless to say, I will be back and highly recommend this place. In fact, the food was so good that we got the leftovers to go, and brought them with us on the 5.5 hour drive back home the next day. As it was over 100 degrees out, we even carried then food into each stop with us. It was like our little baby. THAT’s how goo the food was at LPC.
