According to the Michelin guide, Sadler has been a staple of the Milan fine dining scene for over 30 years. I think its best days are behind it. The meal started off with some amuse nicely presented, but very mediocre in taste.

We ordered a la carte this evening, and I’m glad we did.

The meal started with some bread.

For my first course, I had the poached egg, cheese fondue, black truffle, kale and Grana Padano. For E35, it was highly disappointing. Actually, at any price it would be disappointing. On paper, runny egg, truffle and cheese sounds amazing. However, the execution was bland and tasteless. The soggy kale didn’t add any value to the dish. It was like no one tasted this dish before putting it on the menu.
The next dish provided some relief to my disappointment. The risotto with Grana Padano broth and wagyu tartar. It was finished and presented tableside.

It was extremely delicious and well balanced. The wagyu was fresh and tasty, and there was good acidity from the sauce which I believe was balsamic based, and cut the creamy risotto very nicely. However, this enjoyment would only last a short while. The main dish, deer, brought me back to bland dining purgatory.

To finish, they brought some petite fours. Given the disappointing dishes, we didn’t want dessert.

Overall, service was awkward. It was a mix of good, chaotic and seemed not genuine. Like they were just going through the motions without passion. The food for the most part was mediocre, except the risotto. I would not give this place a Michelin star and would be hesitant to even include it in the guide. Needless to say, I wouldn’t return or recommend.
