I’ve heard a lot of positive things about Michael’s Gourmet Room located at the Southpoint Hotel and Casino in Vegas. However, nothing prepares you for the actual experience, and an experience is how I would best describe it. For the time you are there, you can transport yourself to anywhere in the world. Want old school Vegas – glamor, indulgence, sophistication? Yup; How about New York City polish with imposing surroundings? Sure; or you can go for Parisienne romantic, refined luxury chic. Michael’s could of been any of these. The dining room is gorgeous.
Service was on another level. The tone for the excellent service that would radiate throughout the night was set right when we sat down. An impeccably dressed server brought over some appetizers on the house. For a lot of this post, I will be vague so as not to ruin a lot of the surprises for you. Waiting at the table even before sitting down, was a basket of lavash:
With the aforementioned complimentary appetizers came a second basket of a different type of bread and a spread. The second bread and spread was highly addictive. You could get full on these items alone!
Here was the menu for the evening:

We started with the escargot. They were prepared with a buttery sauce that was delicious and a pie like crust on top. I prefer a more traditional prep, but they were still really good. After the shared appetizer came an over the top palate cleanser!
The our mains. The veal piccata and the dover sole. The piccata was well balanced and savory. The acidity from the lemon was perfectly incorporated and did not overpower, but rather, enhanced the dish. The sole was prepared tableside meuniere style. We also ordered a side of creamed corn. The preparation was perfect. The corn was fresh and sweet. The cream was not overdone and just gave the corn a light creaminess versus some places which can go overboard to the point where the dish becomes heavy.

For dessert, they roll out a cart and you can also order from the menu. In the pic of the dessert cart below, you can see the beautiful stained glass dome. They don’t make the items of the cart in house except for the Michael’s cake if I am not mistaken. The rest are either outsourced from a famous local baker that I am not a fan of, or shipped in from whoever makes it best (for example, key lime pie is from Florida). We went with the banana foster, which was prepared tableside (a lot of the items come with a show) and the Michael’s cake. I thought both were just ok.

After dessert, they brought some complimentary chocolates, chocolate covered fruit, and a basket of some more sweet items which was just over the top! You’ll have to see for yourself. After all the surprises and food, we couldn’t help but laugh at this last item.

Overall, this was an incredible meal and experience. Places like this are not abundant these days, and that’s a shame. I hope Michael’s sticks around for a long time. The food was good, the service was phenomenal, the dining room was gorgeous, and the surprises and tableside prep kept the whole evening fun, and highly enjoyable. I will be back and recommend you check out the experience for yourself.
