In my search for Southern food in Charlotte, North Carolina, I consulted the Michelin Guide and came across Haberdish. Then I checked the high Google rating. Finally, I saw it was frequently mentioned on REDDIT in threads discussing where to find good Southern Food in Charlotte. I was 99% sure it was going to be great, and it didn’t disappoint. Here was the menu:

We started with the deviled eggs and added the smoked trout. The trout and smoke paired really well with the fluffy egg. The fish added some meatiness. I would get this again.

The next dish I would consider one of the best things I have eaten in 2026. The hush puppies with sweet tea butter. This butter was mind blowing and dare I say, in my mind, dethrones French butter as my favorite. Not an easy feat.

Next we had the 2PC dark fried chicken. Good but not incredible.

The chicken tenders which I think WERE incredible. Very meaty and hearty pieces of perfectly crisp chicken.

For sides: collard greens and tater tots. I really love collard greens and these didn’t disappoint. The tater tots were just OK.

For dessert, my wife fell in love with the banana pudding. I thought it was just OK too. It could of used a tad more sweetness and the banana taste didn’t shine. It was just a hint of banana.

Overall, service was good and the place is in an area with a great vibe with lots of other restaurants and bars lining the street. We went on a Friday night and encountered this drum group outside a cafe. The restaurant it self has a very busy vibe to it too which makes the whole night fun. I would return and highly recommend – especially that sweet tea butter. WOW!
