When I think of prime rib, I think of Lawry’s (or Harwood Arms in London). Last Sunday, I decided to try Primarily Prime Rib on a whim. I booked a 9:30PM spot through Open Table and headed to the South Point Hotel and Casino where it is located. As a side note, this was my first time visiting South Point, and it won’t be my last. However, more on that in a future post.
Given that it was close to their 10PM closing on a Sunday, I didn’t expect the place to be busy and there were only 3 other tables finishing up when we arrived. The dining room had an old school, charming vibe to it. The hostesses were pleasant upon our arrival and seated us right away. Here was the menu for that evening:

I liked the menu. Small and focused. A busboy came by right as we sat to offer some water (he didn’t ask what kind we wanted and I think this is a missed opportunity to sell bottled water). Anyway, shortly after that, our server came by to take drink orders. I started with a negroni which I don’t think they sell much of because our server explained that they were trying to find Campari, and when the bill came, I noticed that they only charged $8 for Campari. Anyway, the drink itself was still good even without the gin. Our server was extremely pleasant and this continued through the duration of the meal. Probably one of the best servers I have ever encountered in Vegas.
Since the meal came with salad, I didn’t order an appetizer. I went with the South Point cut with ranch salad and a side of mash potatoes.
Our server brought some sourdough to start which was warm, had a fluffy interior with a good sourdough taste and a nice crust that wasn’t overly hard. It was served with some softened butter.

Shortly after, our server brought out a cart with our salads which he tossed tableside. I haven’t had a ranch salad in a long time, and I was reminded by how much I love ranch.

The main event was of course the prime rib. Served with some jus and two kinds of horseradish.

The meat was tender, cooked perfectly and well seasoned. Although I was disappointed that they didn’t serve Yorkshire pudding, the sourdough dipped in the jus was good enough that I soon forgot about the Yorkshire. I would say that the one thing I like about Lawry’s compared to this is the seasoning salt that Lawry’s is famous for. However, don’t get me wrong, that edge is very slight, and this was a very enjoyable meal.
Overall, I enjoyed the old school dining room, the food, and especially, the excellent and friendly service of our server and his team. It all came to together in a meal that I will definitely be back for. The price point also represented great value. I highly recommend this place. Another plus for this restaurant is there is a lot to do at South Point before or after your meal. We stuck around and played BINGO. However, there is also bowling, movies, an equestrian center, and I noticed that they still had 2:1 blackjack among other things. I looked up some of the other restaurants there and they had high reviews too so I can’t wait to check them out. If they are anything like this experience, then looks like I found a new go to casino in Vegas.
