Yun Noodles and Dumplings – One in a sea of choices

Las Vegas has a very vibrant Asian food scene. Its highly competitive with a ton of choices in almost any category you can think of. A lot of people not familiar with the city, or who only think of Vegas as the Strip, are often surprised when I tell them that there is an amazing Chinatown. However, Asian restaurants are found all over the city, and not just on Spring Mountain. Over the past two days, I tried a couple of Taiwanese places. The first one I am writing about is Yun. I started with the beef pancake roll. It was good. Nothing mind blowing, but a good beef roll tasting how it should.

Next, the Xiao Long Bao. They were mixed. One the one hand, there was a lot of soup and it was good, but the skin was way too thick and the filling was a bit dry. Not the best XLB I’ve had.

Lastly, the beef noodle soup. It was decent. I prefer my noodles more on the chewy side though.

Overall, service was quick and efficient. There was nothing really wrong with this lunch, but it didn’t blow me away either. For beef noodle, I still think Shang is the way to go. The one I will write about tomorrow would be a really good choice too. As for Yun, its ok. Maybe if I was in the area and didn’t want to go somewhere far, I would drop in again. However, I would not go out of my way to eat here; there’s so much choice in Vegas, and other places to try instead.
