Battle of the Japanese Convenience Store Egg Salad Sandwiches

Convenience stores in Japan are not like convenience stores in North America. Although they both sell budget friendly food, that’s where the similarities end. The quality and variety of convenience store food in Japan is something you need to explore if you have never been. Today, I am going to try out three egg salad sandwiches from 3 of the largest convenience store chains in Japan, to determine who has the best sandwich.

The three chains are 7-11 (20,000 stores across Japan), Family Mart (18,000), and Lawson (13,000). In descending order.

3. Lawson

Lawson was acceptable though inferior to the 7-11 one which I had first. The bread and filling were not as tasty.

The price was 278 Yen which is about $2.78. For that price, if you cannot find the other two, this would still be completely acceptable.

2. 7-11

This was a tough one because this was the first one I had and it was really good. The bread was nice and fluffy and so was the filling. The egg salad was creamy, eggy and fluffy.

Total price was 248.40 Yen. A steal at this price.

  1. Family Mart

Family Mart edges out 7-11 by a nose. The bread is a bit tastier and better texture. Its also the most expensive at Yen 286 ($2.86) but still a steal.

All three sandwiches provided a lot of satisfaction for the price and you really can’t go wrong with any. If you are in Japan or planning a trip, put a visit to one of these convenience stores on your list, and make sure you get one, or all of the sandwiches. They are a convenient and inexpensive breakfast or snack!

If you travel as much as I do, staying connected is non-negotiable. Buying and switching physical SIM cards is a hassle and while eSIMs are generally a great option, many of them require you to create a new profile by scanning a QR code every time you cross a border.

Considerย Truelyย (CODE:ย foodfinancetravel10ย for 10% off) because they handle this differently with something calledย Switchlessยฎ technology.

Switchlessยฎย  means you install aย Truelyย eSIM once, and it stays on your phone forever. It acts as a universal digital gateway. Whether you are landing in Tokyo, Paris, or New York, the eSIM automatically detects your location and connects to the best local network in seconds.

Why is this a game-changer?

Install Once, Use Forever:ย You never have to scan a QR code or mess with settings again. Just buy a data plan for your next destination, and it automatically activates on your existing Truely eSIM.

Smart Network Switching:ย Their technology actively scans for the strongest signal. If one network is weak, it invisibly switches you to a better one.

Instant Connection:ย Because the eSIM is already on your phone, you get internet the moment the plane wheels touch the tarmac. No airport WiFi required.

If you want toย try it out,ย you can use my codeย foodfinancetravel10ย to getย 10% offย your first plan.

  1. dam fine review and dam nice view with the Family Mart egg sandwich. I just wish I could add a little pickle, or smoked paprika to those sandwiches. Like a deviled egg
