Ama is a cocktail bar in Vancouver that serves Asian inspired food in a nice lounge like setting. The interior is dim with an orange glow. The cocktails I had were good complete with attention to detail in the form of clear ice cubes. The plates are sharing friendly. We started with the Caesar salad which was good.

The crab dip was really good.

…and so was this uni pasta. There was just the right amount of uni but not overpowering. It was so good we ordered a second. The second one was cooked even better with the pasta more al dente.

The sushi was mixed. The tuna trio of maguro, chutoro and otoro was using quality fish with nice fatty flavor, but the rice was not the best sushi rice I’ve had. It was still good though.

The uni sushi was good, but the wagyu sushi was something I would not order again. The beef was too thinly sliced and overcooked.

The scallops were good but they were small and I wish the server told us there were only three while we were a party of six. A missed chance to upsell.

The burger looked really good and the bun was spot on, and reminded me of a Mcdonald’s hamburger bun (in a good way), but the patty itself was not that great. I blame this on regulations in Canada which strangely, require burgers to be cooked well-done.

Overall, service was pretty good though started a bit slow. The food was good. The drinks were good and the atmosphere was good. I would go back for drinks and little bites, but maybe not for a full dinner.
