What’s Good at Gyu+

Gyu+ has picture perfect food. Who doesn’t love a good sando? The hours are a bit confusing because of what is posted on Google and Instagram, but I finally figured it out. It looks like there is a more casual side Gyu+, and a more lounge-like side – GYU+ Social. The casual side is open from 10AM-4:30PM, and GYU+ Social is open from 6PM to 10PM. Adding to the confusion, Opentable has RSVPs, but only for the Social part. If you don’t know about the two sides, it looks like there is conflicting info about their opening times. It makes it look like they are only open at night (and it didn’t help that we went once in the day but it was closed).

Anyway, this post is about the casual side which is open from 10am-4:30am. Once we finally went when they were open during lunch, the next thing that was a bit confusing was the menu. There is a sample box with 3 different sandos in 3 different boxes. What this means is that each individual order comes with 3 pieces. If you want to try more than one kind of sandwich, you need 3 people. Then you can get the sampler which will have one 3 sandwiches – egg, steak, and chicken – split into 3 plates so that each person can try one of each.

Since there were 4 of us, we also added an additional order of the chicken, and some togarashi chips. The spicy chicken katsu sando is what you want! Lots of balance and flavors – crunch from the panko crust, good flavors from the tonkatsu sauce, a bit of heat, and some refresh from the veggies. The egg was bland and the best steak sando I’ve head in Vegas was at Nomikai (inside the speakeasy at the Venetian/Palazzo) which I will post about later. The togarashi chips needed more seasoning and the togarashi flavor did not come through. The pandan creme brulee incorporated the flavor of pandan well.

The service was as expected from a fast-casual place. You order at the counter then they bring everything to you. If you want privacy, I recommend you sit at the room in the back. Otherwise, there is a communal table in the front. The back room is also beautifully decorated with sakura flowing from the wall to the ceiling. Note that they also own the bakery two stores down called Moignet. This place is know for mochi beignets. If you bring your receipt from Gyu+, they will give you a free one. I would go back for the crispy chicken sando.
