Gordon Ramsay Steak in “Vancouver” (Richmond) is Legit

I usually avoid going to restaurants run by celebrity chefs on TV. It is probably the influence of Anthony Bourdain who criticized them in his books and shows. I think one exception is Gordon Ramsay. I had been to his restaurant Savoy Grill in London and thought that it was near perfect.

Recently (I think in February 2025), he opened a steakhouse in Vancouver and saw they had Beef Wellington on the menu. I was curious as to how it would stack up to the one I had in London. The restaurant is located inside the River Rock Casino in Richmond, about 30 minutes drive from downtown Vancouver. Whether this has any impact on the restaurant’s success remains to be seen, but our server indicated that it has been very busy so far. The meal started with an amuse from the kitchen which was pretty tasty:

…and then we dove right into the mains:

The Wellington was delicious. The crust was buttery and flaky, the beef was perfectly tender, and there were mushrooms surrounding the meat. It was served with jus on the side. I think the one at his restaurant in London was better, but this was not far behind. The Caesar salad was good. It had a good amount of umami from anchovies and acidity. The carrots were ok. A bit mushy. The mashed potatoes were also just ok. As for the ribeye, it was good, but it was a bit chewy and the flavor at a place like Elisa is still the best for me.

The highlight of the night were the fries. Seriously addictive. Perfectly seasoned and full of deep fried potato flavor.

Small details were lacking at this price point. For example, the ice was not clear in my cocktail. Overall, service was good, and the food was good. I would come back and would recommend. Its good to see that even with so many restaurants around the world, the standards are maintained. I might even try a few of his other restaurants in other cities now…
