Continuing on the popularity of the last post on “Cheap, Fast and Delicious in NYC“, here is a follow up with all new places to try based on a recent trip to NYC. First, ice cream. I tried Sundaes and Cones on 10th between 3rd and 4th, and went with the taro. It was delicious. The flavor was more mild than a Filipino ube, but it was just the right amount of flavor. I would go back.

One thing I always try to have in NYC is a slice. In a moment of bad decision making fueled by a long night out, I chose a place close to where I was with high ratings. I don’t understand the ratings because the pizza was not very good. Good enough for 3AM, but not much else. There are better places. This place was called Andiamo.

Another thing I always try to have in NYC is a bagel in the morning. This time, I tried Broad Nosh Bagels Deli on 58th. I had the scallion lox spread which everyone raves about (it was OK), on an everything bagel with lox, onion, capers, and tomato. The bagel was massive and one is good for 2 people in my opinion. It was good though not the best bagel I’ve had. I like bagels with a bit more chew. Note that if you visit, the line at lunch was long those moves fairly fast.

If you are visiting NYC and into Japanese food, be sure to check if there is a Japanese festival happening while you are there. They have them a few times a year in various locations around the city, and on this trip, there was one in the East Village (Google to check for exact location). The festival is worth going with a lot of food options, lots of people, and music. There is also a section of vendors from other countries but I think they are piggybacking off the Japan Fes as opposed to being part of it.
We tried the takoyaki from one vendor, and a hojicha and matcha ice cream from another. Everything was really good.

Lastly, near the festival, there was a highly rated XLB place that I had to try. There was a lot of soup inside, but I felt that the skin was a bit too thick and the filling was a bit dry though still good. We tried the traditional pork, pork and crab, and truffle one. The traditional and truffle were the best. I might go back if I am in the area but wouldn’t make a special trip here (note that there is a XLB place next door, with much lower ratings). The place we went was called Nan Xiang XLB (East Village).
