We woke up to another beautiful Sahara desert sunrise on our last full day in Morocco.

Breakfast was ready for us in the dining tent.

As we were eager to get back to more milder climates and modern plumbing, we asked our driver to minimize stops on the way back. The drive back started with an amazing drive through the desert.
…and then a drive through a former lake that is now drained of all water…

…our driver also stopped to show us some fossils….

….as we headed into Marrakech, we would experience our third hotel stay in the city – Sofitel Lounge and Spa. It was located in a more modern area of Marrakech that I wish we had known about, and had more time to explore – Hivernage. From what I observed, this is where the majority of nightlife and shopping was concentrated. This hotel, while clean, is in needed of some renovation in the rooms, and was my least favorite hotel of our stay in Marrakech (they also charged more than the rate I had booked and played dumb when I asked about it; Accor eventually adjusted the rate) .

For dinner, we went to Azar which was a nice modern venue with performers walking around during dinner.
The food itself was ok and was typical of most menus in Marrakech.

The meal ended with some tea and then we headed back to the hotel.
Overall, we had an amazing time in Morocco. I can’t wait to go back and explore the other cities. The architecture and design are wonderful. Next stop – Frankfurt.
