Smoking Pig is a ramen and Korean bites restaurant located in Burnaby, BC. Here is a look at the small menu.
My wife had the Ramengers Ramen while I had the spicy version.
First, the server proudly proclaimed that everything, including the noodles, was made in house. Bonus points for this passion. It was served with some pickled veggies on the side. The verdict:
Noodles – the noodles were good, well cooked
Broth – The broth was not as complex and deep as other top ramens in the city. It was ok though.
Char siu – This was outstanding! The pork was tender and full of home smoked goodness flavor! It was just smoky enough with hints of sweetness. I would not of expected such great char siu at a place like this.
We also order honey garlic fried chicken.
I would not order these again. The batter was too thick and the sauce lacked bold flavor. It was muted. Also, they should of cut the chicken into bite sized pieces.
Overall, the service was quick and efficient, and the food was ok, except for the char siu which was outstanding. I would not go out of my way to eat here, but if you are in the area, its worth a try for the pork alone. Just skip the Korean fried chicken.
