Google “best sushi in Miami” and Makoto will usually pop up on a few lists. I was conflicted initially about going here. It seemed more like a “scene” place that happened to serve sushi. Its also located in a shopping mall, albeit the very high end Bal Harbor Shops. My initial impressions were wrong. Makoto serves amazing sushi. We started with a caviar tasting which is served with toro rolls. Heavenly.
Everything here is fantastic. The nigiri is all good, and the rice is well executed. The chu toro and otoro are divine!
They also have hot food, but I have only tried the robata. The corn is good as well as the king crab.
Overall, I have been twice now and both times the service was excellent. The only downside is its a bit pricey. There is another option I discovered in Miami, that serves really good sushi, at a (slightly?) lower price point. I will post about it later. For now, I would definitely return to Makoto. In fact, I continue to think about going here days after a visit. That’s always a good sign.
