In a Sea of Steakhouses, Mae Daly’s Stands Out

February 14, 2026 (update) – I went back to Mae Daly’s for Valentine’s dinner and the experience was quite different from the one below. Service was extremely slow and inattentive. It might be because of a busy Valentine’s, but the server rarely came by even to update us on when food would arrive. Steak was also under-seasoned and lacking flavor. I am changing my opinion of this place based on this, I probably would not return. Currently, for steak, I would check out Papi Steak or SW at the Wynn (I recently went and their aged steak was one of the best aging I’ve tasted).

Vegas has a lot of choice when it comes to steakhouses. From large ones located in Casinos to more local favorites, there are many choices. I find that when it comes to steakhouses in Vegas, reading reviews doesn’t always help. Many highly rated ones have turned out to be disappointing. Mae Daly’s was different. Highly rated, well deserved.

The night we had dinner there, there was live music playing. It took a while for anyone to greet us, but once they noticed us standing at the front, we were sat and served right away. The restaurant is located near the Strat in what seemed to be the front of a motel complex. There is a free valet out front. The interior feels Southern. With chandeliers and tiled floors. Does not feel like a typical steakhouse with dark woods. Anyway, we started with the shrimp cocktail which was fresh juicy and as expected from this dish. The only odd thing was that 4 of the prawns were cleaned (the back cut open), but one was not as you can see in the pic below. A bit unusual but didnt take away from the dish. There was nothing “suspect” in the uncut one so maybe that’s why it wasnt done.

The Caesar was creamy and I could taste the anchovy. Very savory and enjoyable.

I should mention that they provided some cornbread and butter to start which was average. I feel like the butter could use some salt and a bit more sweetness in the cornbread.

For main, the dry aged bone in rib eye. This was perfectly medium rare and the aging was done very well. I could taste the delicious aging with every bite.

The fries were probably some of the best crisped I have ever had. Our server mentioned that the owner was a big fan of Mcdonalds fries and tried to re-create in a more upscale version. They certainly succeeded. This was actually a mistake because I ordered shoestring and they brought regular fries, but I am so glad they did. Highly addictive.

The corn was also good:

For dessert, the tres leches. One of my favorite cakes ever. This one was so so. One of the things I love about a good tres leches is the cold temp its served at which perfectly compliments the soaked cake. The temp of this one could of been colder, and I would prefer without the fruit.

They also provided these complimentary at the end:

Overall, service was good and the food was really good, especially the steak which is what you come for. The fries were also a home run as was the Caesar salad. If you are looking for a good steakhouse that’s not tied to a casino, with a more local vibe, you won’t go wrong here. I would return and recommend.

  1. we all love a good Americana design
Spanish/Mexican: cornbread, corn side+ goat cheese and tres leches
    Italian: salad and cannoli
    French: steak frites

Take only the best, discard the rest!
