El Comal is a Mexican restaurant located in downtown Vancouver. On Sundays there’s usually a line up because there’s an all-you-can-eat buffet from 10AM to 3PM. Today (a Tuesday), I checked it out for lunch. Its a pretty big space and it was empty when I arrived around 1PM with only about 2 other tables. I liked the vibe inside. Modern and playing hip hop. Our waitress informed us it was taco Tuesday, and that meant non-alcoholic drinks were free. We started with pico, guac and chips:

It was ok. The guac could use more lime, salt, garlic and cilantro. It was almost just avacado. Same for the salsa. The green sauce in the middle, was good. The chips were pretty standard, I dont think made in house. Still enjoyable. The tacos were a different story. My benchmark for fish tacos is Tacofino. For the longest time, any other fish taco, anywhere in the world would disappoint; until now. I think this is my new benchmark!

I also had the al pastor and chicken. The al pastor was very average. However, the chicken one was delicious. There was clearly attention to detail as the chicken taco was dipped in sauce in the kitchen. The orange sauce they served the tacos with was VERY spicy.
Overall, service was nice and friendly though the kitchen was a bit slow. I will be back for the fish tacos and you should too!
