Run to Run in Hong Kong

Finally, a Michelin starred dinner that did not disappoint in Hong Kong. I am talking about Run in today’s post. Run is a two Michelin starred Chinese restaurant in the St. Regis hotel in Hong Kong, and it deserves the accolades. While the restaurant might not have the glamorous views of other Michelin starred places in the city, the food is certainly amazing. Don’t get me wrong, the dining room is still beautiful, it just doesn’t have that over the top opulent nightclub look that many restaurants here have. We started the meal with an amuse. The shrimp was fresh and the fried cube reminded me of popcorn. It was delicious.

Next, the BBQ pork. The sauce and flavors were really good. The meat was very tender. If it had been a bit more marbled, it may of been the best I’ve ever had.

Next, something our server recommended. A sort of sticky rice with Chinese sauce. It was unique and very good. Packed with umami.

The next dish was the crispy chicken which the chef is famous for. I recommend pre ordering it. It is moist, crispy but not overly like fried chicken, and lightly seasoned. If you love the taste of chicken, you should definitely try this. I recommend pre-ordering as it can sell out. Make sure you ask for the restaurant’s hot sauce which goes well with many of the dishes we had.

Next up, pea tips with garlic. Good, but not the best I’ve had, that distinction goes to Mott 32. The broth they use is sublime.

After that we had lobster spring rolls. These are to dies for. The lobster taste is brought out nicely and the seaweed dusting the wrapper adds just the perfect hit of umami with each bite. The wrapper is perfectly crisp, not oily with a unique waffle texture.

Lastly, e-fu noodles. These were good and had the right wok taste. Very savory.

Dessert was just ok. The guava soup is better is better as a mango version. The pistachio cream is like a soup and was just ok too. Nothing mindblowing.

For petit fours we were given a seaweed jelly that was flavorless and some biscuits which were good.

Overall, the service was excellent. The food was really good and some of the more memorable I’ve had of the Michelin starred places in the city. I liked it so much I am returning the next day to try their dim sum. I will update with a new post about that. I would highly recommend this place, and as mentioned, already going back!
