Usually a high Google rating (4.5+) with a lot of reviews, combined with some other intel, will result in a high probability of finding a delicious place to eat. However, this was my second time striking out using this fairly reliable method in finding a good ramen venue in NYC. The first time was at Kin. This bring us to Shinjuku ramen located on 56th with a Google rating of 4.7 with over 1,000 reviewers. We started with the gyoza which was ok. Nothing particularly good or bad about it:
Then the miso ramen with the “superstar” option which basically adds more protein to the order.
I found the flavors to be extremely muted and not particularly deep. Seasoning was weak. As I ate more, it did improve somewhat, but I would say this was average to below. I would rate it 3 to 3.5, not 4.7. Anyway, service was pretty good, but the ramen was not unfortunately. I will continue my search for good ramen in the city.
