According to data online, 75% of the population of Richmond is Asian. Naturally, this makes it a great place to eat Asian food. If you are flying into Vancouver, the airport is located in Richmond. On a recent return from a trip to Vegas, I decided to take advantage of this and have lunch in Richmond before heading home. My wife found a new place for Xiao Long Bao. Its kind of hard to find, but its worth it. The restaurant is located on the second floor of the Admiralty building. Here you will find a food court with a wide range of different Asian food options!

Being inside this place made me feeling like I was in HK! We tried two different food places and I would highly recommend them. The first is called Hao Chi Lai – Deliciously Handmade. It lived up to its name both in terms of handmade, and being delicious.

You can see the lady making the XLB fresh.

I ordered a combo which came with wonton soup and 6 XLBs, and I added an additional 6 XLBs.

The wonton soup was ok. Broth was pretty good, but the wontons were just average. However, the XLBs were really good. The skin was not razor thin, but not thick either. They were a bit bigger in size than normal and filled with lots of soup. I would highly recommend this place. It was a bit slow getting the food after ordering, but that is probably due to it being handmade. The only other drawback is that they only had half bottles of water for sale. The other place we tried was called Auntie Polly’s kitchen. They specialize in Taiwanese food. I had the crispy chicken.

It was delicious and moist but not the best I’ve had. Still really good. I wish they added some basil. That would of probably sent the flavor into the very delicious category. Still, I would try other Taiwanese dishes on their menu on a return trip. Note that they only accept cash.

Overall, this was an amazing find, and I am sure there are more like it in Richmond. There were also other stalls in this particular food court I wanted to try for next time. The next time you are in the mood for XLB or Taiwanese chicken, definitely check this place out!
