Italian, Japanese, and Dogs

Orsa and Winston is a Japanese Italian inspired restaurant in downtown L.A. The place is named after the owner’s dogs.

The restaurant is fairly small and has an open kitchen.

The menu for the evening.

We decided to go for a bottle of sake with the tasting menu and the server was quite knowledgeable about the selection. The meal started with an amuse.

…and then the hamachi crudo…

….followed by the zucchini noodles…

…and a little extra dish from the kitchen, fried quail which was very delicious…

…binchotan black cod…

…we also added the supplementary course…uni rice…

…and the restaurant also provided some bread…

…which lead to the final course of raviolo with duck…

…a palate cleanser before dessert…

and some chocolate dipped strawberries to end the meal.

Overall, the service was really good. The food was good, but I would not say that anything particularly blew me away. The ingredients are fresh and the preparation was clean. There is some inventiveness going on. I would not return and I am undecided whether I would recommend someone to try it.
