French Polynesia Day 5 – Lunch on a Private Island in Bora Bora

I woke up for the first time in Bora Bora and started the day off with breakfast which was included with the room due to our Bonvoy status. The daily breakfast was fantastic in terms of selection and quality. They had all the typical items as well as French and local selections. All of it was included and you could order as much as you wanted.

After breakfast we headed off to our boat and snorkel excursion. We got to see the beautiful waters of Bora Bora.

Our guide was Upa and he was incredible. He told us that he paddles 5KMs to work in his canoe daily each way; rain or shine. His large arms reflected this; all from canoeing and never in a gym. As he told us about his background and his vision for his future, I came to greatly admire his passion and determination. He took us to an incredible spot to snorkel. There were so many types of fish! After, he took us to another spot for swimming with sharks and stingrays.

For lunch, we had organized a lunch on this private island.

…during lunch, Upa provided amazing local live music for us.

The food was incredible. The BBQ chicken was very delicious; fantastic marinade. The coconut bread was very good also. After lunch, we headed back to the hotel and decided to ride bikes around and explore the resort. We stopped at the lagoon and did some snorkeling. We saw a massive (60 lbs?) fish with bright metallic blue lips. It looked like something from out of this world.

After that, it was time for a snack and enjoy the sunset back at the bungalow.

For dinner we hesitantly tried the “Indian Night” and was pleasantly surprised that it was good and fairly authentic.

As we headed home and prepared for bed, we had a pleasant surprise – FIREWORKS! Apparently, there was a wedding at the resort.

It was the prefect way to end Day 5 in FP. Stay tuned for Day 6…
