Red Fish Blue Fish – F&C With a View

Red Fish Blue Fish is a fish and chips shack located in Victoria’s Inner Harbour. It consistently gets high recommendations. What did I think? Read on…..

First, logistics. When we arrived it was busy, and only got busier. The line ups will be long and slow. The orders will be slow to come out too.

What I suggest is you download their app and order using that. It won’t speed up the process but you will avoid having to wait in line. The restaurant will text you what time your order will be ready. Add another 10-20 minutes on top of that estimate.

Now, on to the food; we have the cod and the tuna tacone.

The tacone was ok. My benchmark for fish tacos is Tacofino. This one did not come close. As for the fish and chips:

  • no vinegar or lemon was provided
  • the tartar sauce lacked zip zing and acidity; not a lot of flavor
  • the fish itself was ok

In summary, I don’t think it is worth the long wait. For fish and chips, my benchmarks are Fish Counter in Vancouver and the Mayfair Chippy in London.

The next day, we had F&C again in Victoria, and although that restaurant did NOT specialize in F&C, I enjoyed them more. I will review that place on another post.

There is one strong point of Red Fish Blue Fish though. There is a lot of outdoor seating and you will get good views of the harbour.
