Yesterday we had the pleasure of having Anna Lena’s 4 year anniversary tasting menu. It was outstanding in every way.
Every dish was delicious and creative. The service was outstanding. The servers were extremely knowledgeable about the food and wines, and were very detail oriented. This is rare in Vancouver. If I did not know any better, I would of thought I was in Europe or a Michelin Star establishment (one star) in New York. Good job!
Lastly, the price was tremendous value. In any other city……..
Anyway, here was the menu:
The first dish was caviar on a potato chip. Caviar and potatoes, how could anything go wrong? So savory.
Next, a salad with green goddess dressing and tempura anchovy bits. The lettuce was very fresh, and all the flavors worked very well together.
This was followed by a fish dish, of smoked albacore with coconut, lime and cabbage (it was not listed but I got a lot of lemongrass flavor). This was an outstanding dish with good acidity.
After the fish, came what to me, was the best dish of the evening – the lobster. First, the lobster was sweet and perfectly cooked. The bisque-like cream was very flavorful, and then the bread, savory and great texture. I loved this dish.
The next dish was grains. We added the black truffle option. The egg was perfectly cooked.
The last savory dish was the pork. The pork was very tender, but I would say this was the only dish which lacked a “wow factor”. It was good, but not like the above. There was a crsip artichoke with parm cheese, on this dish that WAS wow though.
For dessert, there was a delicious panna cotta with banana bread and caramel banana ice cream. Everything worked well together.
After dessert, they brought some petit fours.
AND THEN a birthday cake doughnut to take home. I can confidently say that on this night, the best meal in Vancouver, was served in this restaurant. The food and service this night, could of held its own, almost anywhere in the world. In other words, world class! 9.5/10.
