I have been wanting to try the new seafood restaurant – Pisces – at the Wynn since it opened and finally made it for dinner last night. The place is pretty popular because I had to make a reservation about 2 weeks out. The venue is stunning. The interior is modern and feels very luxurious. The restaurant is set on the “Lake of Dreams” which features intermittent shows so if you want to watch, ask to be seated outside. Just note that in the summer, it will be hot out. It wasn’t so bad last night and the ceiling fans provided a nice breeze. Here is the gorgeous setting:
The service started a bit slow as the place was really busy, but once it did start, it was pretty good. The meal started with some bread which was croissant like and served with a couple dips. The smoked eggplant was flavorful and incorporated the smoked flavor well.

We started with the jumbo oishii shrimp which lived up to its name (oishii is delicious in Japanese). The shrimp were big and meaty. The cocktail sauce was well balanced and provided the right level of kick.

The other starter was disappointing. The aged salmon crudi lacked acidity and the aged flavor was not pleasant. I used the lemon from the shrimp cocktail to add my own acidity to the dish.

The lobster spaghettini was also disappointing. While the lobster was delicious, the pasta was WAY overcooked to the point of having a mushy texture. Inexcusable for a $75 dish.

The whole roasted dover sole was underwhelming. First, this dish should be presented whole tableside and then deboned tableside. The brown butter lemon sauce was very bland. I rarely discuss price in this blog but for $120, these mistakes make the dish mispriced.

The side beans were ordered were good.

For dessert, we had the Greek Yogurt soft serve which was underwhelming. I’ve travelled the world in search of the best soft serve and this would rank below average. See some examples here (the best soft serves are in Hokkaido (made with Hokkaido milk), Seoul and of all places – Mongolia). The baklava donuts were ok, and reminded me of lukumades.

Given the very high prices and publicity around this place, I had high expectations. The surroundings are next level. The service was pretty good. However, the food was a miss. Overall, the experience still made it a good dinner, but I would not go back or recommend. If you want to see the Lake show, there is a bar beside the restaurant.
