Peter Luger Vegas VS NYC

I recently tried the Las Vegas location of the famous NYC steakhouse – Peter Luger. I had originally wanted to eat at a different Strip based restaurant, but they closed at 9PM, which I believe is way to early for a 24/7 city like Vegas, and Luger was open a bit later and in the same casino. Upon arrival, we were seated at in the bar area and informed that the main dining room was closed. They really need to open later on the Strip. My initial impression of the place was that it was a very nice spot maintaining a good balance between the old school features of the original location, while also adding modern touches. Our meal started with a bread basket and Luger’s famous sauce. The sauce was good, but attention to detail was lacking (or someone simply didn’t care) as it was served cold.

The bread I tried, stuffed with onions, was pretty good. We ordered most of the “must have” items starting with the thick cut bacon. It was delicious and very satisfying. It paired well with the sauce or on its own.

We also had the Caesar which I would rate as slightly better than average:

For the main event, we had the steak for 2 and some fries:

The steak was cooked well. The aging was apparent and the scent of it was incredible. What was lacking was seasoning. If the steak was seasoned better, it would be near perfect.

For dessert, we had a sundae which was very mediocre. They also gave us some chocolate coins to finish.

Overall, we had a nice dinner here. Service was pretty good. The food was not as good as the original location. If you are craving steak in Vegas, I would still pick Bazaar Meat or Lawrys (for prime rib) over Peter Luger.
