Impressive Tasting Menu in Siem Reap – Embassy

On a recent trip to Siem Reap, I became impressed with the depth of culinary experiences in Cambodia. From street food, to local establishments, to world class tasting menus, the country, and Siem Reap in particular, seemed to offer it all. One place that was particularly impressive with its tasting menu was a place called Embassy. Here are some details about the chef:

The kitchen, and even servers, features an all female crew. When we arrived, I was impressed with the modern yet elegant interior. Note that there are two sides to the restaurant. We were originally sat in an area used more for groups where there were also large families with children. We asked to move to the more intimate side, and were placed in a gorgeous private room. Here was the tasting menu for the evening, with the massive massive price of $54! In all seriousness, I found that Siem Reap provided tremendous dining value in general.

In addition to the tasting menu, they offered 3 different beverage pairings: 1. wine, 2. Champagne, and 3. herbal. I went with #2:

The meal started with some amuse, which were Khemer inspired street foods:

After this, we went to the kitchen for the next course; a shrimp and pork croquette; this is also where I got my first glimpse of the all female kitchen brigade.

As we returned to our private dining room, we were served a river lobster to start:

…and then a sweet corn soup:

…then mackerel:

…a palate cleanser:

then the main course: chicken…

After the chicken, the first of two desserts, fermented black sticky rice panna cotta:

The meal ended with some mignardise:

On top of all this, they even gave us some macarons to take home:

Overall, service was good, the atmosphere was good, and the food was good, especially at this price point. We were all impressed with how well executed this experience was. I would recommend this place. We also went to their sister restaurant, Sombok, in Phnom Penh after, and had high expectations after eating here. Unfortunately, our great experience at Embassy, did not translate into the same experience at Sombok.
