Legacy House is a one Michelin star restaurant in Hong Kong serving Shun Tak cuisine. The restaurant is located in the Rosewood hotel and is absolutely stunning with gorgeous views. Unfortunately, that’s the best thing about the place. The food was underwhelming, except for a few items. Because of our group size, they put required us to be in a private room with a minimum spend and set menu. I don’t mind paying, but a restaurant has to deliver. Here was the menu:
The menu above cost HKD1680 or about U$215. The first dish was the best. The BBQ pork and beef were full of flavor. The pomelo was very delicate and exciting to eat. From here, everything went downhill.
The soup was bland and was boring. We had to add vinegar to the dish to enhance the flavors.
The next dish was equally bland and boring. The shrimp with wok fried milk.
The abalone and goose feet were ok. I am not a big fan of abalone, but the sauce of this dish was decent. It was also my first time trying goose feet. It was actually ok also. Nothing mind blowing about this dish but it was better than the previous two.
The next dish is something that you can find on many dim sum menus so I am not sure why it was served on a $200 tasting menu. It was ok, but again, nothing great. Fried mashed taro and duck. For comparison, the previous night we were at Sushi Zo in Phnom Penh (yes, the same Sushi Zo as in NYC which was mind blowing), and for the same price, we had a meal where every course was mind blowing (I will write a post about this shortly).
Next was poached bamboo with fish curd. The curd was interesting but flavorless. I am not a big fan of bamboo either and this dish did not impress me. I will say the broth was pretty good with clean flavors and some umami.
The final dish, chicken udon WAS very good and impressive. However, I am not sure what a “simple” noodle soup dish is doing on a $200 tasting menu.
Lastly, the dessert was red bean soup. Something that is given FREE at most Chinese restaurants to end a meal. Nothing special or creative.
As we were celebrating a birthday, I pre-ordered a taro cake. This cake WAS good. Overall, the ambiance and service were good. The food was boring and uninspiring. Certain dishes looked like they re-served old dim sum items and the kitchen was lazy to prepare anything with “wow” factors. I would not recommend or return.
