You can skip Naughty Nuri’s in Bali

During my time in Bali and Indonesia in general, I had some amazing ribs, but unfortunately, Naughty Nuri’s was not one of them. This is a highly rated place to eat in Bali. Everyone from our hotel butler to our driver in Jakarta raved about this place. Here was the menu:

They are known for their pork ribs. I had asked our driver whether they are American style or Bali style. He wasn’t quite sure, and this is where I think the issue is.

The ribs were dry and largely tasteless without adding in the extra sauce that they have at the table. The sauce itself was very good, but the ribs did not live up to the hype. We also ordered the grilled corn which was also largely tasteless:

If you read this and decide to try it for yourself anyway, make a reservation online. Its a busy place. Hotels and the restaurant itself will tell you they don’t accept PHONE reservations. They do not always tell you that there is a way to RSVP online. We did, and were seated promptly even though others who walked in were waiting. I think if somone has never had BBQ ribs in the U.S. before, then yes, I can see why they would rate these highly. However, they do not compare to the BBQ you will get in the U.S., and they are different than the local ribs I had at other places which WERE really good. By the way, service was good, and quick.
