Restaurant Janine is a French Bistro in Paris. For the most part, it was good. We started with a dozen oysters which had a sauce which kind of overpowered the oysters, but they were still good. We also had the terrine which was good.
For our main, we had a langoustine ravioli which was actually a starter but we weren’t that hungry on this day. It was also good and delicate.
Having come from a restaurant in Toulouse a couple nights before this, where they served me an amazing assortment of FRENCH cheeses, I wanted to relive that pleasure on this night too. I ordered some cheese, but to my dismay, they served me a mediocre gouda. When France has over 1,000 varieties of cheese, I am baffled as to why this place serves gouda.
Anyway, the hiccup with the cheese was soon forgotten when I got the dessert, a Rum Baba. Whereas some restaurants serve this dessert with a booze forward profile, this one had just a hint of rum, but the cake was soaked through perfectly, and each bite was heavenly.
Overall, service was ok, and the food was pretty good. This would be a good spot for a casual dinner. Just don’t order the cheese or confirm what they are serving on the night you go.
