The ONE dish that is always amazing in Bologna and the best Pistachio Gelato

The Bolognese pasta in Bologna ranges in quality from restaurant to restaurant which is surprising given that its the namesake of the city! However, the one dish I have found to be consistently good throughout the city, and the Emilia-Romagna region in general, is tortellini in capon broth. This was no different at All’osteria Bottega which I went to for lunch. We started with a 36 month aged pork shoulder, mortadella and Culatello salami. The first two were really good, but the salami was disappointing. The texture was tough and the flavor was not amazing.

For our pastas we had Bolognese and tortellini in broth. The tortellini was delicious as expected, but the Bolognese was just ok.

Overall, service was ok, and the food was pretty good. Lunch was enjoyable but I would not go out of my way to eat here. If in the area, it could be a good choice. After, we headed to a nearby gelato place called Cremeria Islanda. There, I had one of the best pistachio gelatos I’ve ever had. I would go back for the gelato!
