On day 6 of our cruise, I went kayaking in Antarctica. This was an extra charge activity you could add to your cruise. The other was taking a ride in a submarine which I declined because there is not much marine life to see below the surface in Antarctica. The ship will give you a dry suit so you can stay warm throughout the activity.
The excursion starts with a zodiac taking you out to the kayaks which are anchored in a spot with calm water.
The experience was amazing and it was pretty cool to be doing something not many people can say they have done before.
We were also very lucky that the weather cooperated and it was a gorgeous sunny day. In fact, we went to Antarctica during summer there, and it was actually warmer there on some days than it was at home! After the excursion, I went back to the ship and ordered a double portion of caviar. The nice thing about Seabourn is that you can order all the caviar you want, and it was pretty good caviar too! On some days, I would order triple portions.
After kayaking, we were still able to go on the day’s excursion to Mikkelsen Harbor. A couple cool things about this landing were: seeing a shipwreck, seeing whale bones, and seeing a Chilean structure (I wish we were able to go inside at least one of the structures but it wasn’t allowed, except in an emergency).
…another cool thing about this landing was there were two seals sleeping on the island.
Stay tuned for Day 7, where we will have a special ethnic feast on board the ship, and more amazing scenery and wildlife…
