Toca Madera originally opened in L.A., and has now opened in Scottsdale. The website describes itself as modern Mexican.
If you are looking for a really good and fun night out, this is the place for you.
The food is pretty good too, and the service was very good. Throughout the night, there will be various acts like the fire dancing in the picture below. The crowd is a nice looking one, and if you notice in the picture, it was full (and this was a Tuesday night!).
We started with the ceviche which was not a traditional ceviche by any means, but was decent enough.
Next, kobe al pastor tacos and street corn (which is one of my favorite things to eat in the world). The corn was good, but the tacos were probably my least favorite dish of the night. The menu says that the beef is Japanese Wagyu, but I found it tough and dry. It was overcooked, and I did not sense any marbling that Japanese beef is famous for.
Lastly, the chef’s enchiladas with mole sauce. The mole was very delicious.
As a food spot, I think the food is decent, but there are better options if you want Mexican food. However, as an overall package, with the service, atmosphere, and performances, I think the place is excellent. Its a good place to go for a fun night out, and I would go back. 8/10
