Before arriving in Melbourne, I had asked people in Sydney what they thought about Melbourne. Here are some of the responses:
- its more European
- its food obsessed
- fashion capital
- they take time to enjoy the finer things in life
- its foodie heaven
- great food
The food kept coming up. Because I was already impressed by the food scene in Sydney, I couldn’t wait to see what Melbourne was all about. It did NOT disappoint. More on that in a later post.
Our first dinner was at Tipo 00. A pasta restaurant where the name alone should indicate the great things to come (00 is the flour Italians use to make pasta).
The restaurant is casual and VERY busy. I definitely recommend reserving in advance.
We were seated right away and presented with the menu.
The restaurant provided some focaccia and ricotta to start.
We started with a beet salad.
…and then shared three pastas – gnocchi (with duck, porcini, pecorino), squid ink tagliolini (with bottarga) and spaghettini (with crab).
All were delicious and the pasta was well cooked. My favorites were the spaghettini which was a bit spicy and the gnocchi.
I would definitely return here – many times. Service was good. 8.5/10
