Porto Hydra (or Ydra) is a Greek and Seafood restaurant located in Limassol, Cyprus. It was one of the more memorable dinners I had in Cyprus. Here was the menu that evening:
To start, our server brought us some olives:
To start, we had the gambero rosso carpaccio. These are the massive “prawns” from Spain.
We also had the tarama 2.0 with some ikura and some bread. Both the dip and bread were delicious.
Next, anchovies on toast and fried gambero heads. This is something that great food cultures do well.
For our main, we had the saganaki. While it was good, my benchmark for Saganaki is this small side of the road place in Mykonos (unfortunately, I forgot the name, and it was before I started blogging – I will dig through my photos and see if there is a location tag later). I remember they smashed the shrimp heads and incorporated them into the sauce. It was magical. To this day, where I see shrimp saganaki on a menu, I order it to chase this high, but unfortunately, have never been able to get that same experience. This one was good, but not magical.
For dessert, I had a glass of Commandaria, which I already posted about as the oldest wine in the world, and some pistachio cake.
Overall, the service was very good, our server was very pleasant and attentive. The atmosphere was great. Its modern and the crowd was well dressed and having a good time. The food was good, and it was evident they have a passion for fresh ingredients. I would go back and recommend.
