Day 5 began with a cruise to see Esperanza Base which is “an Argentine research station”. According to Wikipedia, its only one of two civilian settlements on the White Continent.

Around the area are tons of penguins.

The in the afternoon, I finally set foot on Antarctica! The landing site was called Brown Bluff.

It was an incredible experience to be surrounded by penguins. We came really close to them and since they have very few predators, they don’t run away from you!

Later that evening, I ordered some ramen from room service. While its not on the menu, one of the cool things about Seabourn is that you can request different types of cuisine from the chefs and they will try to accommodate you. Just give them a day’s notice. Later on the cruise, I would request other types of food and will post about that.

Was it amazing ramen? No. But considering where we were, it was OK. Tomorrow, I will continue checking things off the bucket list and do some unique activities in Antarctica…
