I ate at Sushi Zo Hanare in NYC in 2019, and to this day, its still one of my most memorable omakase meals. I was surprised to find it opened a location in Phnom Penh, Cambodia about 4 months ago only, and decided to give it a try. I was desperately hoping the same meal, which blew me away almost 5 years ago, would maintain its quality, almost 9,000 miles away! The format consists of an 8 seat omakase only bar:

The meal started with some sashimi and a peanut like sauce. The flavors were strong and delicious just like in NYC.

Next, a miso type black cod preparation:

Then the first piece of nigiri, squid. The rice was perfect and the whole bite was delicious.

Then tuna nigiri:

Then switch back to hot food, fish on rice:

…and some small bites:

This was followed by some soba noodles which were extremely delicious.

Then back to nigiri; this time uni:

…and then the chef searing some tuna with binchotan:

This was followed by more nigiri:

The meal ended with some miso soup and cut rolls (instead of a handroll like it does traditionally):

…and I added an extra piece of chu toro:

…desserts included a piece of tamago:

Overall, service was excellent and both floor staff and chefs engaged with customers. The food was just as amazing as NYC, though with less theatrics and modifications. For example, in NYC they smoked items in front of me, and used more toppings on the nigiri. Nevertheless, I was relived that the standards had been maintained, and the experience was just as amazing. I would go back and highly recommend.
