Choco is a one Michelin starred restaurant in Cordoba, Spain.  The meal starts in the lounge area of the restaurant with some drinks and some very delicious amuse bouche.

Caviar tart and “pickled vegetables” in a handroll

The highlight of this section of the meal was this bluefin tuna pastry.

As Spain is a big supplier of blue fin tuna, I tried many places but was largely disappointed.   The tuna was either over sauced, or prepared poorly.  I wanted a Japanese type simple preparation which allows the fabulous product to shine on its own.  This bite delivered!

Next, we were brought into the kitchen, and introduced to the sous chef who was preparing the next amuse – a delicious smoked meat (I thought it was goat but do not remember exactly anymore).

Finally, we were led into the dining room.  Here was the menu for the evening.

bread service

The first course was a salmorejo which is like a gazpacho, but typical of this region of Spain.

…and then we met the bread god with all his goodies!

Yellow Gazpacho
Gazpachuelo with Prawns and Corn
Oysters
White soup
Stewed Choco – The Fish Namesake of the restaurant
Squid and cod pot
rabbit stew
bull’s tail

…and then the desserts

cherries, yoghurt, wine
almonds, oloroso, EVOO
Ruin (chocolate)
petite fours

Service was very friendly and good.  The chef eventually came out and took a photo with us.  I was very full at the end.  If you are in Cordoba, I would recommend this restaurant.  9.5/10.
